What is PIS/PASEP?
PIS (Social Integration Program) and PASEP (Public Employee Asset Formation Program) are unique identification numbers for Brazilian workers, used for various social and labor benefits such as salary bonus, FGTS and unemployment insurance.
PIS/PASEP Format
PIS/PASEP has 11 digits and is formatted as XXX.XXXXX.XX-X, where the last digit is a check digit calculated by a specific algorithm based on multiplications and modulo 11.
Difference between PIS and PASEP
PIS is for private sector workers (CLT), while PASEP is for public servants. Both share the same format and validation algorithm, being functionally equivalent.
